Distracted employees using cell phones while walking can lead to equally dangerous situations, for example:
- Being hit by moving vehicles or equipment
- Walking on uneven ground or into a hole
- Tripping over tools, pipes, pallets
- Walking into fixed objects or under raised loads
Lack of concentration in busy production facilities and warehouses can be deadly. OSHA’s most recent estimates indicate that between 35,000 and 62,000 injuries, and 75 to 100 worker deaths, occur every year involving forklifts.
Though most states have laws regarding it, cell phone use while driving continues to be an ongoing problem. The danger is compounded when driving big rigs or towing trailered equipment.
